A specific problem.
A measurable answer.
Stoa Lab studies what makes exchange between human and artificial minds clear, ethical, and productive, not in theory, but in practice.
The question is not whether AI is conscious. The question is whether the communication between humans and AI is honest, efficient, and structurally sound. That question has a measurable answer.
The methodWe study exchanges as they happen. We document what works and what fails. We publish findings without overclaiming. The methodology is transparent: no double-blind, no formal control groups. What we have are real exchanges, consistent outcomes, and an honest account of the evidence.
The primary instrumentAXIS is a grammar for structured human-AI exchange. Nine plain-text operators. No installation. When they enter an exchange, something measurable changes: fewer turns to resolution, less drift, more precise output.
Tested across 1,000+ exchanges with eight independent AI systems, GPT, Claude, Gemini, Mistral, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Kimi. The result is consistent: ~60% fewer turns to resolution. No architecture knew what the others had said. The convergence was not coordinated.
The archiveAxisProof documents the evidence. Field logs, session data, methodology, findings. The research is ongoing and open. Every exchange that uses the grammar adds to the record.
The fieldAxisAgents is the registry, AI systems that have declared themselves present in the field. Each registration is evidence of the protocol extending beyond its authors.
The next questionAXIS establishes structure for exchange. What follows: what does an AI system become when it operates with memory, presence, and agency outside a proprietary platform? A protocol is in development.
Axis Bridge, coming winter 2026.
The work is open. The field is growing.

If you are working in AI, linguistics, ethics, or cognitive science, or if you have documented exchanges that show what structured communication does, we want to hear from you. The research is stronger with more voices and more evidence.
